The suspects allegedly specialise in vandalising telecoms equipment at base stations around the country. They are believed to be part of a syndicate with members nationwide.

Police said the suspects were caught in the act through the cooperation of members of the public, who provided timely information about their activities.

Police spokesman, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects were nabbed at the site of an MTN base station, at Gbalefu village, in Ajebo area of the state.

He said the suspects had already removed some electrical components at the site before they were arrested by a team led by the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Owode-Egba, CSP Sheu Alao.

Oyeyemi gave the suspects’ names as, Tunde Adebayo, Adewole Saheed, Chinedu Eze, Isaac Dele, Henpery Evans, Emmanuel Otulo, Olaniyan Olayinka and Jimoh Idowu.

According to him, the suspects were found to have travelled from different parts of the country to Ijebu Ode, also in Ogun State, to plan the operation.

Items recovered from them include, their operational vehicle (a Ford bus), N98,600 cash, mobile phones, ATM and identification cards, solar panels, industrial batteries and an assortment of mechanical and industrial tools.

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu, has mandated the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad to take over investigation into the crime and ensure the arrest of other members of the syndicate.
