Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, says the president’s son, Seyi Tinubu, should not be barred from pursuing a governorship position simply because of his family background.
Speaking on The Clarity Zone Podcast, Bwala dismissed claims that Seyi’s charitable activities are politically motivated, insisting that he has long been engaged in welfare initiatives.
“Is he not qualified to be a governor?” Bwala asked. “Some people say no, simply because his father is president. That is blackmail. Even if his father is president, what stops him from running for governor? He can even challenge his father in a presidential election if he chooses to.”
The presidential aide emphasised that Seyi has not declared any political ambition, but should not be unfairly judged or restricted.
“I have known the children of presidents in Nigeria. Seyi is unassuming. He still keeps the same friends he grew up with; he hasn’t changed his community or circle because of influence,” Bwala said.
Speculation has grown over Seyi’s possible interest in contesting the Lagos governorship in 2027, though he has not made any public declaration.
