Music artiste, Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy, will face trial for armed robbery on Monday.

Lagos Police spokesman, SP Chike Oti

Spokesman for the police in Lagos, SP Chike Oti, disclosed this in a statement today.

The popular musician was declared wanted by the police last month after suspects arrested over an armed robbery attack on another music artiste, Abinye Jumbo, popularly known as Mr. 2Kay, on October 22, confessed they were hired by Burna Boy.

The statement reads: “The pop musician, Damini Ogulu, a.k.a Burna boy, who was being sought in connection with the robbery attack on another popular musician, Mr. 2kay at Eko Hotel, reported to the police today 15/12/2017 at about 1700 hours. He was subsequently arrested, interrogated and detained and would have his day in court on Monday 18/12/2017.”

While declaring Burna Boy wanted, police commissioner, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, told journalists the artiste conspired with five other suspects to rob Mr. 2Kay.

He said detectives have arrested the five suspects, including Burnaboy’s manager, Joel Kantiock, in connection with the crime.

Edgal had stated: “About 2am, someone knocked on the door of Mr. 2Kay’s room and introduced himself as a room service official from the reception. Mr. 2Kay opened the door and four men entered with a gun. They robbed him of his Audemais Piquet gold wristwatch valued at $25,000; jewellery valued at N1.5m; an iPhone 7 valued at N380,000, a Samsung Galaxy S7 valued at N240,000, Samsung Galaxy S5 worth N110,000; Addidas shoes valued at N75,000; three bottles of perfume worth N180,000 and N45,000 cash”

According to the police boss, investigations revealed that the suspects were recruited and paid an initial sum of N50,000 by Kantiock, while Burnaboy himself paid them additional N50,000 after they had carried out the attack.

Imohimi had further stated: “Four armed robbers carried out the attack and detectives were able to arrest one of their girlfriends, who is named Matejero. She led detectives to arrest the suspects.

“During interogation, they confessed that they were hired by Burnaboy through his manager, Joel Kantiock, who was arrested in Zaria, Kaduna State.

“They also confessed to receiving a part payment of N50,000 before the job and another N50,000 was paid to them directly by Burnaboy after the job was done.”
