Concerned Nigerians are fervently praying for the survival of a gallant police officer who went after sea pirates with his men but came back with bullets in the belly and some lives lost.
The heroic officer, Dele Adeyanju, was once a journalist at The Nation before he joined the Nigeria Police Force.
His arm was shattered and his body riddled with bullets when an arrested gang leader sprang a surprise.
Details of the deadly mission were shared on Facebook by Alhaja Adeola Agoro JP, who had worked with him at The Nation.
The post captioned “Thanksgiving and Call for Prayer for Dele” reads in full:
“Dele Adeyanju, one of my dearest brothers at The Nation newspapers left to join the Nigeria Police Force many years ago as a commissioned officer. I was scared but he assured me he’d be fine.
“He has been doing well as an officer and the promotions soon started coming.
“There is no week that we don’t keep in touch in the ten years plus since he has become an officer. We share a bond that cannot be broken.
“When I didn’t hear from him for almost a week, I thought he had become busy with securing the nation for the festive season.
“I got to know yesterday that if not for God, we would have lost him.
“He led an operation to arrest some sea pirates who had killed some of their officers. It was going to be a fruitful exercise because he had arrested the gang leader and seized some of their guns. Unknown to him however the man still had a powerful pistol on him. He turned on Dele and his officers and killed some of his boys. He got close to killing Dele but we thank God the bullets that went into his stomach and hand didn’t kill him.
“Please help me thank God for my brother’s life and at the same time, pray for our soldiers and our policemen.
“So much is happening in this country. We need more prayers.”
