The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has expelled 57 students for their involvement in examination malpractice and rusticated eight others for varying durations.

Two students were cleared of allegations, while one case was deferred for further investigation.

The decision was reached at the Senate’s 427th meeting, in line with the institution’s General Examination and Academic Regulations (GEAR) and other academic policies.

According to the university, the affected students cut across several faculties, including Education, Engineering, Allied Health Sciences, Social and Management Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Those rusticated will serve suspensions ranging from one to two semesters, depending on the severity of their offences.

The two exonerated students were found innocent after due investigation, while the deferred case has been referred to a special committee of the Student Behaviour Committee for review.

BUK reiterated its commitment to upholding strict academic standards, stressing that examination malpractice and other forms of misconduct will not be tolerated.
