President Muhammadu Buhari’s love life is the talk of the town today, as the world awaits his much-speculated wedding to Ms Sadiya Umar Farouq after Jumaat in Abuja.
Forty-four-year-old Sadiya is Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
As the mainstream media is waiting to catch up with social and online media, an acquaintance of Sadiya told NewsmakersNG that the proposed wedding is actually coming four years late.
The acquaintance said that he knew about the marriage plans since 2015 when he was with Sadiya on a trip to New York.
Buhari has been leading on Twitter trends since yesterday with almost 60, 000 tweets today alone, followed by the First Lady, Aisha.
There has been no love lost between the independent-minded Aisha and members of her husband’s kitchen cabinet since she revealed that a cabal has hijacked the President last year.
Today’s expected wedding will be Buhari’s third marriage.
His first wedding was with the late Safinatu, in 1971. It was blessed with five children.
He married Aisha in 1989 after he divorced Safinatu in 1988.
Safinatu died on January 14, 2006, after an 8-year battle with diabetes.
Buhari’s marriage to Aisha has also been blessed with five children, namely: Aisha, Halima, Yusuf, Zarah, and Amina.
Besides leaks on Social Media, Buhari’s media aides have kept sealed lips on the much-talked-about proposed wedding of the 77-year-old President.
An official told NewsmakersNG that the rumour would not be dignified with a response, because there is nothing to write about.
Before her ministerial appointment, Ms Farouq was federal commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons ((NCFRMI)) and had served as a staff of the National Assembly Service Commission before leaving to join politics in 2010.
She’s a politician from Zamfara State and former national treasurer of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ms Farouq attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science (Bsc.) degree in Business Administration (Actuarial Science) and Master’s degrees in International Affairs and Business Administration.
