Amid the rising crime wave across Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed an acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, abruptly ending the elongated tenure of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu today.
The change in baton was announced on Twitter by the P.A. to the Presidential on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie.
Adamu was relieved of his duties while he was on an operational visit to Imo State. He has only spent about two months out of the three-month extension that the President granted him in February.
The acting IGP, who was the DIG in charge of FCIID, has been ordered to immediately manage the rising insecurity in the North East and North West regions.
