NewsmakersNG has just confirmed from the Presidential Villa, Abuja that the tenure of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu has been extended by three months.
The report was confirmed by the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.
There were indications that Adamu could stay longer in office, beyond his February 1 official retirement age, when he was seen in his uniform welcoming the President back to Abuja on Tuesday.
Buhari was returning from a 4-day official visit to Katsina.
Adamu was at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Tuesday evening for the welcome ceremony.
The event took place amid speculations that the outgoing IGP has already been replaced by an Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim, from Borno State.
