Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has passed away this afternoon in a clinic in London.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by his former spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on behalf of the family. The terse message reads:
“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.”
Details surrounding his death are still emerging.
Buhari, a retired Major General and former military Head of State, served two terms as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023.
