BUA Group founder and chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, provided a warm and memorable moment at the BUA Employees’ Service Awards ceremony after making a playful remark about his past marriage to Nigeria’s Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hanatu Musawa.
Addressing staff members, dignitaries and guests, the billionaire industrialist jokingly described Musawa as “the love of my life” before adding, to laughter from the audience, that she later “promoted herself and left me behind”.
The comment, delivered in a relaxed and humorous tone, set off applause and smiles across the hall.
Musawa, who was seated beside him, received the remark with grace and good humour, beaming as the audience reacted.
Their friendly exchange offered a vivid public glimpse into a relationship that, while no longer marital, remains cordial and grounded in mutual respect.

Rabiu and Musawa were previously married and are parents to four children, Khadija Cookie Rabiu, Isyaku Khalifa Rabiu, Junaid Rabiu, and Rania Rabiu.
The light-hearted moment unfolded during a major highlight of the ceremony, where Rabiu announced the distribution of N30 billion in cash rewards to more than 500 long-serving BUA employees in recognition of their loyalty and commitment.
Five staff members received N1 billion each, a gesture that has continued to attract widespread praise.
Beyond the scale of the rewards, the brief exchange between the BUA chairman and the culture minister quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the evening.
On social media, Nigerians applauded both Rabiu and Musawa for demonstrating that past relationships can evolve into respectful friendships.
The moment added glamour and a human touch to an event otherwise defined by corporate milestones and extraordinary generosity.
