A major fire has erupted at Afriland Tower, housing a branch of UBA, on Broad Street, Lagos Island.

The blaze reportedly started in the basement inverter room before smoke and flames spread to multiple floors.

According to Ogabi Olajide, Deputy Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the alarm was raised at 1.38pm and fire crews from Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu stations promptly responded.

Videos circulating online show dramatic scenes of workers being evacuated through windows with the help of fire service ladders, while others were seen jumping out in panic as thick smoke engulfed the high-rise building.

A large crowd of onlookers gathered around the scene, capturing the unfolding chaos.

As of the latest updates, no casualties have been officially confirmed. Firefighters remain on the ground battling to contain the blaze and minimise damage.

Emergency responders are urging the public to stay clear of the area as rescue and containment operations continue.
