The Senate of the University of Ibadan (UI) has appointed Professor Adebola Ekanola as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution.
Ekanola is the current Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic. He is from the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts.
Ekanola is to take over from the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, whose tenure ends today.
Ekanola emerged winner from a pool of five nominees at a special senate meeting presided over by the Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. Olayinka Omigbodun.
The other nominees are: Professors Olanike Adeyemo (Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnership), Adigun Agbaje, Gbemisola Oke (former Deputy Vice Chancellors) and Ayo Oluleye from the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering.
NewsmakersNG learnt that Ekanola scored 275 votes out of 400 total votes cast to emerge acting VC.
Oluleye came second with 80 votes, while Agbaje, Oke and Adeyemo scored 15, 14 and 13 votes respectively. Three votes were voided.
Ekanola’s election is expected to be ratified by the University Council when it meets later this afternoon.
