Attempted Coup: Trump Supporters Attack US Capitol as Congress Vote to Affirm Biden’s Victory

Malik Yahya/

Police in Washington are firing teargas and flashbangs into a mob of President Donald Trump loyalists trying to storm the Capitol.

Police are also reportedly struggling to push back thousands more who are on their way, after attending a rally by Trump earlier in the day.

The mob is ostensibly poised to disrupt the ongoing process of certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s November 3 electoral victory by the US Congress.

Vice President Mike Pence was reportedly ushered out of the senate chamber after the mob gained access into the chamber.

According to the NBC, a police officer on the third floor of the building advised people to take shelter because protesters had got inside.

Senators were locked inside their chamber on the second floor of the Capitol building and protesters wearing Trump “Make America Great Again” hats and carrying flags were seen gathering outside the chamber doors, the news outlet said in its report.
