Suspected thugs have attacked the Oko Medium Security Centre, in Edo State and freed the inmates.
The surging hoodlums reportedly overpowered the armed guards in the facility before setting the inmates free.
They also reportedly looted the prison and carted away valuables.
This is coming some hours after some hoodlums hijacked #EndSARS protest to attack the Benin Correctional Centre and free inmates.
The Oko facility has the capacity to accommodate 1300 inmates.
According to a prison source, the thugs came in their thousands and their mission was to free inmates.
The source added, “They have been communicating with the inmates because even before they broke into the facility, the inmates were already rioting inside the place.”
Suspected hoodlums had also attacked three police stations in Benin and went away with some guns and uniforms.
One of the stations, Igbekun police station, was also set ablaze.
