One of the suspects undergoing trial for the murder of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, reportedly attempted to escape from the Ondo State COVID-19 isolation centre.
The suspect had tested positive for COVID-19 after he was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Victoria Bob-Manuel at the Akure Magistrates’ Court last month, alongside three others, and was remanded in prison custody.
The suspect, identified as Adamu Adamu, was consequently moved to the state’s isolation centre for treatment.
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu while announcing the development has said that the suspect would be manacled to the bed during the period his treatment in addition to the deployment of policemen in the isolation centre to prevent his possible escape.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the suspect made the escape bid during one of the times he was unshackled to go to the toilet.
The police authorities in the state have reportedly drafted more officers to the centre following the development.
