Funke Olakurin, daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the 94-year-old leader of Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, was reportedly shot dead in Ore, Ondo State, today.

The Ondo State police command confirmed Olakunrin’s killing adding that the hersdmen, numbering about 16, also attacked occupants of the three other vehicles and abducted four persons.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph, the incident happened between Kajola and Ore, adding that Olakunrin was the only one killed.

He said three vehicles, including a luxury bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors, were attacked by the kidnappers, adding that the passengers in the bus were travelling from Imo State to Lagos.

However, he said the Police have rescued three of the victims, adding that only one passenger, identified as Gerald Igboroka, was yet to be found.

Joseph said: “From the information available to us, the suspected kidnappers who were 16 in number ambushed the three vehicles at Kajola.

“The three vehicles were said to be going to Lagos and they were all attacked.”

He added that none of the suspected kidnappers had been arrested, but efforts were on top gear to ensure their arrest, saying that the police have already condoned off the location.

Spokesman of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, had earlier confirmed that suspected herdsmen were responsible for the killing.

Odumakin said the 58-year-old woman was heading to Ore junction from Akure, when she was attacked.

He stated: “We have confirmed the death of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin (58), daughter of our leader, Chief Fasoranti.”

“Witness accounts say she died of gunshots from herdsmen who shot her at Ore junction in Ondo state earlier today.

“She was coming from Akure when the armed herdsmen came from the bush to attack her and other vehicles.

“Her domestic staff in the car with her also sustained gunshots. This is one death too many and a clear we-can-take-it-no-more death.”
