The menace of kidnapping for ransom by suspected herdsmen appeared to have spread farther into the south-west as gunmen abducted the son of the immediate past minister of health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, Tuesday evening.
NewsmakersNG learnt that Dayo Adewole was waylaid on his farm by four gunmen about 6.30pm at Iroko town in Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The area was hitherto unknown for such activities.
The villagers were reportedly alerted by one of the victim’s staff who survived the attack.
Sources told NewsmakersNG that a combined team of security forces and local hunters are currently combing the surrounding bushes in a bid to rescue the victim.
The victim’s car had reportedly been recovered in the nearby village of Iware.
NewsmakersNG also learnt that the ex-minister has been informed of the incident and is on his way back to Nigeria from his trip abroad.
The abductors are yet to contact the family.
