Pro-democracy activist, Omoyele Sowore, has been released by Nigeria’s Department of State Security (DSS) after the United States Congress made a strong case for his freedom today.
Sowore, a former presidential candidate and founder of Sahara Reporters online news agency was arrested with a student activist, Olawale Bakare, on August 3, 2019, by the DSS for alleged treason after organizing a protest tagged RevolutionNow.
His release this evening followed an order by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), for his freedom.
After a brief chat with journalists, Sowore continued to shout Revolution Now with a clenched fist as he was driven away.
