Several buildings were destroyed following an explosion that rocked Akure, the Ondo State capital, in the early hours of today.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the explosion occurred around 1am at Eleyowo area, along Owo-Akure road.
Residents of the area said they were woken up by a loud bang which forced most of them to run out of their homes.
Some of the affected buildings included a full boarding school, Aina Awawul Secondary School; a popular penticostal church, Possibility Ground Ministry and a filling station.

The explosion also destroyed a portion of the main highway, making it impassable for motorists.
Emergency workers and security officials are currently assessing the situation.
No casualty has been reported.
