Updated: Scores Escape Death as Govt’s Negligence Causes Train to Derail in Lagos

Several people escaped death when a loaded passenger train derailed in Lagos this morning.

NewmakersNG learnt that the accident which occurred around the Mangoro railway crossing about 7am was caused by the negligence of the Nigeria Railway Corporation.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, an investigation showed that the train derailed as a result of faulty tracks.

The agency explained that the tracks had been reported by men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority in the area but was noted for pending engineering works later in the day.

It said no life was lost in the accident, while the injured have been evacuated to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The train was reportedly coming from Ijoko, Ogun State, and heading to Ebute Metta, Lagos, when the accident occurred.

NewmakersNG also learnt that three couches were affected by the accident.
