Breaking: Robbers Attack First Bank in Ekiti, 2 Policemen Feared Killed

Segun Atanda/

Armed robbers today attacked a branch of First Bank in Ifaki-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Eyewitnesses said the robbers killed two policemen during the attack. NewsmakersNG could, however, not confirm the veracity of this claim from the police.

The robbers also reportedly carted away millions of naira from the bank’s vault.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the heavily-armed robbers arrived the bank on Oye-Ekiti Road, at about 3pm, shooting sporadically to scare away the people around.

The two mobile policemen guarding the bank reportedly abandoned their post to hide somewhere in the premises, where they were both shot dead by the robbers.

One of the slain policemen.

A police source however said only one policeman died, while the other survived with bullet wounds.

The source added that the robbers were suspected to have arrived the town a few days before the attack.

Police authorities in the state are yet to comment on the incident.

The latest incident is coming up barely exactly two weeks after another attack on banks in Offa, Kwara State, in which 16 people, including nine policemen were killed.
