Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced the first case of coronavirus infection in the state.
In a statement he shared on his Twitter page, @seyimakinde, in the early hours of today, Makinde said the test for a suspected case at Bodija, in Ibadan, the state capital, came back positive.
A popular radio personality in Ibadan, Edmund Obilo and his family, are reportedly being quarantined at the University College Hospital (UCH) over suspicion of having been exposed to the virus, with their test result expected yesterday.
Makinde also disclosed that a follow-up on the Ekiti State confirmed case who transited through Ibadan revealed that he stayed with a family in Ona Ara Local Government Area of the state.
He said the family had been advised to remain in self-isolation while contact tracing of identified close contacts has begun.
He further disclosed that another female returnee from Texas, USA, had also been identified at Oluyole Local Government Area of Ibadan and has been kept in self-isolation.
