About 340 abducted students of the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, have been released, says the Katsina State Government today.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mustapha Inuwa, confirmed this to BBC Hausa this evening.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the schoolboys were on their way to Katsina and were expected to arrive there close to midnight.
BBC further reported that President Muhammadu Buhari would receive the schoolboys at the state capital tomorrow.
Mr Bello Matawalle, the governor of Zamfara State where the children were held hostage, also confirmed their release.
“Alhamdulillah for the successful rescue of students kidnapped from Government Science Secondary School Kankara, Katsina State. To God be the Glory,” he tweeted this evening.
The students were abducted from their school by Boko Haram last Friday.
Multiple sources had claimed that 520 students were abducted during the attack on the school.
