Breaking: Mob Sets Ablaze Fire Station in Oyo

Ololade Adeyanju/

A mob has reportedly attacked a fire station in the historical town of Oyo following the failure of firefighters to help with quelling the fire that razed a major market today.

The Akesen market which is stone throw from the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, reportedly went up in flames this morning.

Some residents attributed the fire to electric spark.

Some people of the town reportedly ran to the fire station which is only few meters to the market but the officials on duty told them that they could not do anything to quell the fire because there was no water in their fire truck.

The mob consequently set fire to the truck and other property at the fire station in protest.

NewsmakersNG learnt that firefighters from Ibadan, the state capital, had arrived at the scene with a backup from Ogbomoso to battle the inferno.
