Three persons reportedly lost her life, while no fewer than 59 others sustained serious injuries today in an accident involving a Dangote Cement Truck and a fully loaded Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) bus at Majidun, on Ikorodu road in Lagos.

NewsmakersNG gathered that the truck which was heading towards Ikorodu had suddenly veered off its lane and hit the BRT bus at about 8am.

Most of the injured have reportedly been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

According to a report in PM News, Fola Tinubu, the Managing Director of Primero, owner of the BRT bus, said three people died in the accident.

Two of the deceased were Primero staff while the third person was a female passenger.

“Unfortunately, we lost two of our staff and one passenger in the accident. We are working with the authorities to apprehend the truck driver. Right now our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the deceased and we are praying for full recovery for the injured,” Tinubu reportedly said.

The Director General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the accident was caused by the brake failure of the truck, which was loaded with cement.

He noted that the agency’s officials worked with sister agencies to ease vehicular movement and ensure swift recovery of the truck

Oke-Osanyintolu stated: “A Dangote truck fully loaded with cement had a brake failure and had a head-on collision with a Primero blue Mass Transit bus with number plate, LSR-228XS, conveying 40 seated and 20 standing passengers.”

He added that all passengers on board suffered various degrees of injuries including the driver who suffered severe life-threatening injuries with his leg decapitated.
