The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a cache of arms and several bales of military uniforms allegedly being transported from Lagos to the South-East, in a major security breakthrough.
Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, today paraded the recovered weapons, military camouflage uniforms and other exhibits at the Command Headquarters, where he disclosed that four suspects had been arrested in connection with the shipment.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that the consignment was being moved from Lagos to the eastern part of the country before vigilant officers intercepted it.
The exhibits displayed during the parade included assorted firearms, ammunition, military camouflage materials and other security-related items suspected to have been destined for criminal elements.
CP Tijani commended the operatives involved in the operation, describing the seizure as a significant blow to illegal arms trafficking and other criminal activities threatening national security.
The police boss assured Lagos residents that the Command remains committed to intelligence-led policing and proactive operations aimed at preventing the movement of illegal weapons and military accoutrements across the state.
NewsmakersNG learned that operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted an unmarked MAN diesel truck at the exit point of Lagos State conveying 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of drugs suspected to be illicit substances. According to CP Fatai, preliminary investigation revealed that the military camouflage uniforms were allegedly being transported to the Eastern part of the country.
He said, “Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, ownership, and intended recipients of the recovered items, as well as the extent of the suspects’ involvement. Efforts are also ongoing to apprehend other persons connected with the criminal act.”
Investigations are ongoing to uncover the source of the weapons, identify other members of the syndicate and determine the intended recipients of the consignment.
