The odds appear to be against Lagos governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode today, as the results from most of the wards where the All Progressives Congress (APC) held its governorship primary highly favoured his rival, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The voters were seen engaging in a direct primary against the wish of the APC National Working Committee that favoured secret ballot.

In most places monitored by NewsmakersNG, Sanwo-Olu received votes in thousands, while Ambode’s votes were mostly in tens or zero.

Ambode’s deputy, Idiat Adebule, also made a U-turn today to support Sanwo-Olu.

“The party has chosen a man and it is that man that I will support and follow,” Adebule said while voting in Iba LCDA.

Sanwo-Olu scored 4920 votes in his Ward 3 at Adeniji Adele on Lagos Island against Ambode’s zero, he got 16, 470 votes at Shomolu Ward C2 against Ambode’s 2 votes, and led the governor with 14, 490 to 0 at Ejigbo Ward F5.

Reports from Ward C2, Alimosho Local Government says Sanwo-Olu has 16,724 votes against Ambode’s 3; he also led with 1888 to 0 at Ward C, Yaba; 567 – 0 at Ward A in Agege Local Government and 9700 – 7 at Mosan Ward G North.

Ambode’s supporters, however, complained of Voter intimidation.

One of the prospective voters, Olubunmi Adetola, who spoke in Shomolu, lamented that Ambode’s supporters were flogged and chased away from the venue, adding that some of them sustained injuries that are now being treated at hospitals.

There are reports that the governor won in some Wards in Epe, Lekki, and Ibeju-Lekki.

The results are yet to be officially announced by the APC National Working Committee Panel for the Lagos Primaries. The body, earlier in the day said that the party primaries were being delayed because it was still trying to resolve some issues.

Apparently not happy with the conduct of the primaries, the committee led by Mr Clement Ebri says: “We want a victory that will be credible and will be in line with the guidelines and rules. We are now ready to do the ground running. In the next few minutes, I will contact the national office to inform them that we are now ready for the primary.”
