The Lagos state government today discharged five coronavirus patients at Infectious Disease Centre, Yaba.
They included Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi, a globally-acclaimed gender activist and the Executive Director of a youth-led movement advancing gender equality, Stand to End Rape (STER).
Osowobi had just returned from participating in the Commonwealth Day celebration in the UK when she fell ill and subsequently tested positive.
Osowobi took to Twitter to confirm she had “tested negative” and has been discharged.
Earlier, the government had announced that six of the patients had recovered and would be discharged soon.
The total number of those who have recovered is now eight.
Also confirming the development, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu tweeted via @jidesanwoolu, “I am excited to announce some positive news ahead of our lockdown.
“We have just discharged 5 formerly positve #COVID19 patients from our Infectious Disease Hospital after treatment and multiple testing by our specialists.
“Congratulations to the healthcare team and the patients.
“The preservation of life is very important and this lockdown will help us trace and stop the spread of #COVID19.
“We have increased capacity at all levels and I want to assure Lagosians that no matter what happens in the days ahead we can beat this.
“Please #StayHomeSaveLives.”
