Fire has razed part of Owerri Airport in Imo State.
A video of the incident obtained by NewsmakersNG showed part of the main terminal building in flames.
People could also be seen making frantic efforts to move away vehicles parked close to the burning terminal.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred when some officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were doing repair works in the ceiling and the welding equipment ignited a fire.
Flights were initially diverted to Port Harcourt Airport as a precautionary measure but eyewitnesses said the fire had been contained and air services had resumed.
