Female Student Beaten, Burnt to Death in Sokoto for Blasphemy

A female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto has been reportedly beaten and burnt to death for blasphemy.

The incident, which happened this morning, was also captured in a video that is too gory to share.

The yet-to-be-named student was reportedly accused of insulting Prophet Muhammed.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the victim had sent a voicenote to her class group chat where she complained about her fellow students sending religious broadcast messages to the group. In the voice note, she reportedly said something like “nonsense prophet.”

A loose translation of what she said in hausa in the voicenote reads, “Holy Ghost fire, nothing will happen to us. the group is not created for sending nonsense things. It is created to send past questions, if there is test, or if we are given assignments not all these nonsense things. Which kind prophet, nonsense prophet”

Reports say she was first stoned and beaten by a mob, comprising her fellow student, before being set ablaze.

The video shows the students chanting Allahu Akbar as they carried out the barbaric act.

The school has been shut indefinitely following the incident.
