Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kolawole Oluwawole and his Deputy, Hon Sina Animasahun, have been removed.
Their impeachment was preceded by the the suspension of 12 members of the Assembly, including the former Speaker and his deputy, by 14 of their colleagues.
The 10 other suspended members include, Dr. Omotoso Samuel, Hon. Wale onigiobi, Hon. Wale Ayeni, Hon. Dare Pelemo, Hon. Jeje Samuel, Hon Akinleye Dayo, Hon. Fajemilehin Ayodele, Hon. Fasanmi Temitope, Hon. Tunji Akinyele and Hon Sanya Aladeyelu.
Rt. Hon. Adeniran Alagbada was elected as new Speaker, while the former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Segun Adewunmi, was reelected to his former post.
The members accused the former Speaker of being “clueless” in his handling of the affairs of the Assembly.
The Assembly also elected the former Minority Leader, Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan, as the new Leader of Business in the House, while Hon. Sunday Akinniyi, who recently defected to the APC, was elected Minority Leader.
All the new officers have been sworn in.
The former Speaker has however described his removal as illegal and vowed to resist the move.
The tenure of the incumbent Governor Ayo Fayose ends by 11.59pm on Monday.
