A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo has reportedly granted an order of mandamus to compel the National Assembly to begin impeachment process against President Muhammadu Buhari.
Justice Maureen Onyetenu granted the ex parte order today following a motion filed before her by the Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association, Ilesa branch, Mr. Kanmi Ajibola; and a human rights activist, Mr. Suleiman Adeniyi.
The appellants had written the National Assembly to begin impeachment process against the President, about three months ago, based on the continuous killings in the country and spending without legislative approval.
Following the refusal of the National Assembly to act on the letter, the duo approached the court seeking an order to compel the Senate and the House of Representatives to begin the impeachment process.
They also claimed that Buhari did not possess the requisite certificate to be President and should be impeached on this and other bases.
Justice Onyetenu, in her ruling, granted the leave to compel the National Assembly to commence impeachment process against the President.
