Nigerian pop star and police brand ambassador, Adekunle Temitope aka Small Doctor, was set free today with a slap on the wrist after he was arrested yesterday on a Lagos road where he was threatening the lives of traffic officers with a gun when his car was stopped.

A Magistrates’ Court in Ebute Metta freed the singer, who was accused of unlawful possession of a firearm.

NewsmakersNG learnt that he was released with a warning not to be involved in any violent act for the next one year.

NewsmakersNG also learnt that the suspect has a licence for the gun over which he was arrested and arraigned by the police, even though the Lagos State commissioner of police (CP) Imohimi Edgal had said that all licenses have been revoked by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris.

Small Doctor was paraded at the police command headquarters at Ikeja after he was arrested at Oshodi area on Monday.

Small Doctor (2nd from left) paraded alongside the other suspects at the Lagos State police command headquarters in Lagos.

Edgal alleged that the musician threatened to open fire on a police officer before he was caught.

He added that Small Doctor recently had a case with the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (SCIID) for shooting at his show in Agege where he allegedly injured four persons.

The musician was arraigned today by the police for unlawful possession of firearms and threatening violence.
