President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the reversal of the suspension of Mrs Damilola Ogunbiyi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The President consequently accepted her resignation with effect from December 31, 2019.
The decision came on the heels of her appointment as Special Representative for Sustainable Energy for All and Co-Chair of United Nations-Energy immediately after her suspension was made public.
Buhari had immediately after her suspension announced the appointment of Ahmad Salihijo, said to be the son of one of his late close associates, as her replacement.
Salihijo’s appointment was however greeted by widespread criticisms with many insisting that it was not based strictly on merit.
The decision to reverse Ogunbiyi’s suspension, according to a tweet by the Presidency, was to enable her take up her new appointment with the United Nations.
