Breaking: Bolsonaro Declared President in Brazil

From Adeyinka Olaiya/

With 56 per cent to 44, the far-right candidate, Jair Bolsonaro, has been declared the winner of the Presidential Election in Brazil.

The retired military officer who is also a member of the House of Representatives defeated the leftist candidate, Fernando Haddad, who represents the interest of the imprisoned ex-president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in the run-off election held on Sunday.

Addressing supporters at his residence in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after he was declared the winner, 63-year-old Bolsonaro expressed optimism in moving the country forward.

He also promised to handle the government with a strong hand and put an end to the corruption that has bedevilled the Latin American country.
