Nigeria’s corporate world has been thrown into mourning following the death of billionaire businessman and chairman of the Ibru Organisation, Olorogun Oskar Ibru.

He was 67.

His family confirmed the news on Wednesday, saying he died after a brief illness, though no further details were immediately provided.

Oskar Ibru was one of the most prominent heirs of the Ibru dynasty and a key figure in sustaining and expanding the family conglomerate founded by his late father, Olorogun Michael Ibru.

The Ibru Organisation, with interests spanning shipping, oil and gas, real estate and commerce, became one of Nigeria’s most recognisable corporate brands under the family’s stewardship.

Regarded as both an industrialist and custodian of his family’s legacy, Ibru helped preserve the entrepreneurial spirit that has defined the dynasty for decades.

His passing comes less than a decade after the death of his father in 2016, marking another painful moment for one of Nigeria’s most influential business families.
