Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the revered Awujale of Ijebuland, has passed on at the age of 91.
According to a report by The Cable, the iconic monarch died today, just hours after the death of his longtime friend and former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, was announced.
Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne in 1960, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning traditional rulers. His demise marks the end of a remarkable era in Ijebuland and the traditional institution in Nigeria at large.
Further details surrounding his passing are yet to be officially confirmed.
