The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the federal government have finally reached an agreement which might end the 8-month-old strike by the lecturers.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the leadership of ASUU and the government delegation led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, managed to reach a consensus during their meeting in Abuja, today.

The government reportedly pledged to increase the total payment to ASUU to N70 billion.

The federal government had also last week accepted the demand by ASUU that its members should be exempted from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.
