A patrol team of the Nigerian Navy Operation MESA from NNS BEECROFT caught a suspected die-hard armed robber in action at Mile 2 area of Lagos today.
Twenty-seven-year-old Ajibola Olufowobi, who said he had just been released from jail earlier in the day, was allegedly caught at Mile 2 as he tried to escape after snatching phones while riding a motorbike at night.
NewsmakersNG caught the drama live as the security agents went after Olufowobi in hot pursuit.
When he was caught, he begged the soldiers for mercy.
He said that he didn’t want to go back to jail as he just regained freedom from Ikoyi prison today after serving a jail term.
Olufowobi, who snatched a phone with his partner on a motorbike, ran frantically to escape arrest as soon as the OP MESA men on patrol sighted him and fired a warning shot. But, he couldn’t run fast enough.
He said his father was known as Alhaji Mutiu at Coconut area of Lagos and his wife is nursing a baby she had on June 1, this year. He pleaded for mercy, so he could take care of his child.
Asked why he was earlier jailed, he told NewsmakersNG that he was found with a gun.
“I am not a robber,” he said. “They jailed me because they saw me with a gun.”
He was handcuffed and taken to the police station.
