Breaking: Archbishop of Benue, Ali Aba, Emerges Methodist Church Prelate

Archbishop of Benue archdiocese, the Most Revd Oliver Ali Aba, has emerged the new Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria.

His election this evening at the ongoing 48th/13th Biennial Conference, tagged Benue2022, holding in Abuja, makes it the first time a leader of the church will come from the northern part of the country.

The Prelate-elect takes over from the incumbent, His Eminence Samuel Kanu Uche, who is due to retire soon after serving in the position for 10 years.

NewsmakersNG learnt that Aba defeated his closest contender, the archbishop of Ilesa, Most Revd Amos Akindeko, by 90 votes to 87, after four rounds of voting in an election contested by 10 archbishops and bishops.

The church also created three new archdioceses, 19 new dioceses and two foreign missions during the conference that is billed to end tomorrow.

The newly-created archdioceses include, Archdiocese of lfaki, Archdiocese of Igede and Archdiocese of lkono.

Also, the newly-created dioceses are, Enugu North Diocese, Nsukka/Eha Amufu Diocese, Akegbueugwu/Anineri/Agwu Diocese, Nnewi Diocese, Awkunanam Diocese, Awka Diocese, Ebughu Mbo Diocese, Atamunu Diocese and Ibakesi Diocese.

Others include, Ikom Diocese, Kono Diocese, Oruk Anam Diocese, Nyokhana Diocese, Ado Diocese, Omuo Diocese, Owo Diocese, Yewa Diocese, Okpokwu Diocese, Agatu Diocese, Lafia Diocese, Sokoto Diocese and North East Diocese.

The newly-created missions are namely UK Mission and USA Mission.
