The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the expulsion of its factional National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, alongside lawmaker, Leke Abejide and several others, citing actions deemed inconsistent with the party’s constitution and disciplinary framework.

The decision, disclosed in a statement posted on X by the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, followed resolutions reached at the party’s National Convention held on Tuesday at the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja.

According to the statement, the expulsions were approved after delegates considered and adopted a motion on discipline presented at the convention.

“The African Democratic Congress wishes to inform the public that, pursuant to resolutions reached at its National Convention… the party has approved the expulsion of certain individuals for acts deemed inconsistent with its constitution, values, and disciplinary framework,” Abdullahi stated.

Those affected include Nafiu Bala Gombe, Hon. Leke Abejide, Mr Kingsley Temitope Ogga, Mr Don Norman Obinna, Mr Kennedy Odion, Mr Clement Ehigiator, Mrs Stella Chukwuma, Patrick Ambut, Johny Tovie Derek, Duke Dick, and Elias Adikwu.

The spokesperson said the decision was “duly presented and ratified by delegates at the Convention under the leadership” of the party’s National Chairman, David Mark.

“With this action, the affected individuals cease to be members of the African Democratic Congress with immediate effect,” Abdullahi said, adding that they are now free to join other political parties if they wish.

He further stressed that “any political party that may wish to receive them is free to do so,” underscoring the finality of the party’s decision.

Reaffirming the ADC’s stance, Abdullahi said the party remains committed to “discipline, internal democracy, and the rule of law,” adding that it would continue to uphold accountability as it positions itself as a credible alternative for Nigerians.

The development is expected to deepen the ongoing internal crisis within the party, particularly around leadership disputes involving the position of national chairman.
