No fewer than 39 persons, including 34 students and five members of staff of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, have tested positive for coronavirus.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the development informed the decision of the management of UNILAG to shut down the school’s hostels yesterday.
The management has also reportedly begun immediate contact tracing of staff and students who had come in contact with the confirmed cases.
An unnamed senior management staff of the institution confirmed the development to an online news medium, Frank Talk, today.
“Initially, suspected cases of COVID-19 on campus had to do with students who had flu-like symptoms. Later, some staff also showed same symptoms.
“Following the discovery of these symptoms in staff and students, the medical centre alerted the management and after further investigations were carried out, the results came back positive for COVID-19,” the staff reportedly said.
