Brazil President Tests Positive for COVID-19 as Country’s Record Hits 1,643,539

Adeyinka Olaiya, Sao Paulo/

Brazil’s President, Jair Bolsonaro, has tested positive for COVID-19.

Reports say the President, who submitted himself for medical examinations and tests, was confirmed positive for COVID-19 at the military hospital.

But families of some of the COVID-19 victims interviewed on national television had no sympathy for the president because of what they described as his shoddy handling of the pandemic.

“He is the cause of this much death in Brazil,” Iya jeje de Xango of Ile Oloro traditional house told NewsmakersNG.

Bolsonaro was rushed to the hospital after his body temperature exceeded the normal degree of 37.

Known for condemning social distancing and the use of mask, Bolsonaro has cancelled every appointment and chose to go on quarantine until further notice.

Brazil has today recorded 1, 643, 539 cases of COVID-19 infections and 66,093 deaths.
