Educare Trust Nigeria, a leading non-governmental organisation focused on youth and community development, has announced the appointment of three notable individuals to its Board of Trustees.
Mr. Tunji Adepeju has been named Chairman, while Mr. Gbenro Adegbola and Sir Muyiwa Ige join as members.
This development marks another milestone in Educare Trust’s 31-year journey of empowering young Nigerians and revitalising educational systems.
The inclusion of prominent figures, particularly Gbenro Adegbola, the son-in-law of the late Chief Bola Ige, and Muyiwa Ige, his son, reflects the organisation’s commitment to leveraging diverse expertise and fostering strong leadership.
The new appointees were presented with their letters of appointment by Dr. Tokunbo Abiose, the outgoing chairman, and Dr. Tony Marinho, the founder of Educare Trust, during a brief but significant ceremony, yesterday, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Speaking about his appointment, Adegbola, a seasoned educationist and CEO of First Veritas, expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the Trust. “I feel incredibly honoured to have been chosen as a trustee of Educare Trust. The work of reversing the decline and growing well-rounded young boys and girls has proved to be a continuing work in progress.”
Reflecting on the legacy of the Trust’s founding board members, he added, “At the short ceremony, I couldn’t help recalling over 30 years ago when 17 of us gathered at Uncle Tony’s invitation for the first meeting to try to reverse the decline in primary and secondary education. It’s humbling to take up this role, knowing we lack the reach and gravitas of the late Hon. Justice Bola Babalakin JSC, Dr. Raymond Zard, Dr. Joe Toyosi, Prof. Ladipo Akinkugbe, and others who served on the old board.”
Muyiwa Ige, an accomplished architect and former commissioner in Osun State, brings a wealth of experience in public service and design to the Trust. As the son of the late Bola Ige, a former Attorney General of Nigeria and Governor of the old Oyo State, his appointment is seen as a continuation of his family’s legacy of service and leadership.
Educare Trust, founded in 1994 by renowned medical practitioner and philanthropist, Dr. Tony Marinho, has remained steadfast in its mission to empower youth and strengthen communities.
From its headquarters in Ibadan, the organisation has implemented groundbreaking programmes such as the “Book for Schools” initiative, which has distributed over 100,000 textbooks to school libraries, and the “Career Choice Seminars,” designed to guide students in making informed professional decisions.
Additionally, the Trust runs the “Holi-School Programme,” which engages students in educational activities during school holidays, and the “Quiz Nigerianna” competition to promote academic excellence.
Over the years, Educare Trust has trained more than 5,000 students in computer literacy, welcomed over two million young visitors to its Youth Centre, and reached millions through public lectures and media programmes on youth empowerment.
