The Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has ordered the closure of three major markets in the metropolis in honour of late industrialist and philanthropist, Chief Bode Akindele, whose remains will be buried in Ibadan tomorrow.
This unprecedented gesture was announced yesterday by the Ekefa Olubadan, Oloye ‘Lekan Alabi, during the Service of Songs and Evening of Tributes held for the deceased at his Ibiyemi Villa residence, Alomaja, Ibadan.
Alabi, who represented the monarch at the ceremony, said the affected markets include, Agbeni, Amunigun and Ogunpa, which will remain shut from 8am to 1pm in honour of the late businessman.
The late Akindele holds the hononary traditional title of the Parakoyi of Ibadanland, which literally translates to Captain of Trade and Commerce.
A funeral service for the deceased is scheduled to hold at the Agbeni Methodist Cathedral, Ibadan, tomorrow at 10am, after which his remains will be interred at his Alomaja residence.
A Christian wake was held for the deceased at his residence earlier today. This was preceded by a Lying in State ceremony at the same venue.
Earlier on July 28, a commendation service was held for the deceased at the Hoares Memorial Methodist Cathedral, Yaba, Lagos.
The late Akindele was the founder and chairman of Mondandola Group of Companies and Fairgate Group.
He died at his Apapa, Lagos home, on Monday, June 29, aged 87.
He is survived by 10 daughters and a son — Bolaji.
The daughters are Toyin Isemede, Biola Aderibigbe, Shola Aridegbe, Biodun Duduyemi, Ajoke Braithwaite, Yemisi Oladapo, Titi Madedor, Folake Coker, Ayo Akindele, and Iyabo Shonibare.
