The police in Lagos have told how a major kidnapping plot was thwarted and nine suspected kidnappers were neutralized yesterday.
Reporters were told at a press briefing today that following credible intelligence received two weeks ago, the tactical teams of the Command, under the leadership of CP Adegoke Fayoade, laid an ambush in the Ladipo area of Lagos.
The suspects, caught by surprise, engaged the police in a fierce shoot-out but succumbed to the superior firepower of the officers. Nine members of the notorious gang were killed, while two escaped with gunshot injuries. The police recovered a substantial cache of weapons and equipment, including four AK-47 rifles, four locally-made semiautomatic pistols, nine AK-47 magazines, three walkie-talkies, one POS machine, a loudspeaker, and two operational vehicles—a black Toyota 4Runner and a blue Lexus RX350.
According to Fayoade, the gang, known for kidnapping wealthy individuals in Isolo, Okota, Ejigbo, and Ladipo areas, had been under police surveillance for the past eight months.
He said, “The Command’s diligence and strategic operations have now effectively ended their reign of terror.”
Fayoade praised the intelligence-gathering efforts and urged the public, especially medical practitioners, to report any individual with gunshot injuries. He also called on Lagosians to continue providing valuable information to the police to ensure swift and effective action against criminal activities.
He assured that the Lagos State Police Command remains committed to prioritizing the safety and security of all residents.
