The Chief Imam of the National Mosque Abuja, Prof Ibrahim Maqari, has shared a post on social media in which he appears to justify the lynching of a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, Deborah Yakubu, for allegedly making a blasphemous comment.
Yakubu was yesterday morning stoned and beaten to death by some fellow students who accused her of making a statement they considered blasphemous to Prophet Mohammed. Her dead body was later set ablaze.
He stated in a post on his Twitter handle, @profmaqari, today: “It should be known to everyone that we Muslims have some redlines beyond which must not be crossed. The dignity of the Prophet (PBUH) is at the forefront of the redlines. If our grievances are not properly addressed, then we should not be criticised for addressing them ourselves.”
