Birthday Salute to Lagos CP Olanrewaju Ishola: Outstanding Guardian of Law and Order

Dipo Kehinde/

In the vibrant heart of Lagos State, where the challenges of law enforcement meet the complexities of urban life, one man stands out as a pillar of leadership, commitment, and resilience.

Today, admirers are celebrating the 40th Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, CP Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale, psc+, mnips, as he marks another year of excellence in service to the Nigeria Police Force and the community at large.

Taking the reins after the promotion of AIG Adegoke Fayoade, CP Ishola has demonstrated a profound dedication to ensuring law and order in one of Nigeria’s most dynamic and demanding environments.

His journey began in 1992, when he joined the force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, embarking on a path that would see him rise through the ranks while leaving an indelible mark on every role he assumed.

Armed with a BSc in Geography and an MSc in Urban and Regional Planning from the prestigious University of Ibadan, CP Ishola’s academic background provided him with a strategic understanding of the urban challenges that come with policing a metropolis like Lagos. His expertise has been further sharpened through specialized courses, including the Tactical Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos, and the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the National Institute of Police Studies, Abuja.

Over the years, CP Ishola has worn many hats, from commanding officers at some of the most challenging posts in Lagos to training future generations of police officers. His early career saw him serve as Unit Commander at the 20 PMF in Ikeja and 2i/c Sqd Commander at the 23 PMF Lagos, where he honed his operational skills. He later became an educator, imparting knowledge at the Detective College in Enugu and the Nigeria Police Academy in Kano, shaping the minds of the officers who would follow in his footsteps.

As a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CP Ishola made his mark in several states, including Edo and Ogun, before returning to Lagos. Here, he faced the formidable task of maintaining peace and order in some of the city’s most volatile areas, including Gowon Estate, Ibeju Lekki, Ajah, and Mushin. His tenure as DPO in these locations underscored his ability to navigate complex social dynamics and his commitment to community policing.

Lagos, a city known for its vibrancy and occasional volatility, has been CP Ishola’s canvas for decades. His leadership during crises, such as the OPC Idi Araba and Abule Egba incidents, showcased his tactical brilliance and deep understanding of Lagos’ unique security landscape. His recent handling of the October 1st protest, with the support and cooperation of the people, further solidified his reputation as a Commissioner of Police with a deep connection to the communities he serves.

Beyond his operational successes, CP Ishola has been a beacon of hope for reform in the Nigeria Police Force. His current role as Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, represents a new chapter in his mission to maintain law and order while fostering trust between the police and the public. His extensive experience, particularly in Lagos, positions him as a leader who understands the city’s pulse, and his commitment to reforms continues to inspire confidence.

Happily married with children and a grandchild, CP Ishola is not only a respected officer but also a family man, whose values of service, integrity, and resilience extend beyond the police force into every aspect of his life.

As admirers celebrate his birthday today, we salute CP Ishola for his unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of Lagos State and Nigeria. His career stands as a testament to the power of leadership, commitment, and the relentless pursuit of excellence in public service.

Happy birthday to an outstanding Commissioner of Police, a leader, and a true servant of the people. May this new year bring even greater achievements in his quest to make Lagos a safer and more secure haven for all its residents.
