A Nigerian journalist, Chiagozie Fred Nwonwu, has claimed that Nollywood actor, Chinwetalu Agu, has been rearrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to him, the veteran actor was arrested yesterday by the Nigerian Army around Upper Iweka Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State, for wearing an outfit with Biafra inscriptions.

He said that Agu was on a charity mission to the less-privileged when he was arrested by soldiers.

The Nigerian Army in a statement said that the actor was arrested “while inciting members of the public and soliciting for support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra”.

He was reportedly released today by the army authorities.

In a post on his Facebook page, this afternoon, Nwonwu claimed that Agu is presently in the custody of the secret police.

His post reads, “Chiwetalu Agu is still not free. He is with DSS now. Colleagues say they are looking for a top lawyer to bail him.”
