Beiersdorf, the globally renowned skincare company and makers of NIVEA, has reaffirmed its dedication to science-backed skincare solutions with the official launch of Eucerin in Nigeria. Introduced at a high-profile event on Friday, March 28, the dermatological brand brings innovative solutions for hyperpigmentation, acne, dry skin, and sun protection to Nigerian consumers.
Eucerin is a globally recognized, dermatologist-recommended skincare brand rooted in scientific research and committed to restoring and maintaining healthy skin.
Held at the Marriott Hotel in Lagos, the launch event featured a keynote scientific presentation by Prof. Firas Al-Niaimi, a UK-based Consultant Dermatologist and Laser Specialist, alongside expert panel discussions.
Oladele Adeyole, Country Manager for Beiersdorf Nigeria, highlighted Eucerin’s rich dermatological heritage and its unwavering commitment to efficacy and safety. He stressed the urgent need for proven skincare alternatives in Nigeria, referencing NAFDAC’s 2021 warning about the widespread use of harmful bleaching products.
“Three years ago, NAFDAC raised concerns about the prevalence of unregulated bleaching in Nigeria. Today, the conversation has evolved—beauty is no longer just a health concern; it has become a moral issue that must be addressed,” he said.
Mathieu Levasseur, General Manager for Beiersdorf Central, East, and West Africa (CEWA), expressed enthusiasm about the brand’s expansion in Nigeria. “Beiersdorf has been present in Nigeria for over a decade through NIVEA. Today, we’re proud to introduce Eucerin, the world’s first skincare brand backed by more than 120 years of medical research.”
Nathalie Gemayel, Regional Medical Manager for Africa and the Middle East, took guests through Eucerin’s remarkable journey—from its inception in 1882 by Paul C. Beiersdorf and a team of chemists, to its latest innovation: Thiamidol, a breakthrough molecule that effectively treats hyperpigmentation.
“We sell a product every two seconds globally because Eucerin works. Our commitment to science and clinical proof is unmatched, with over 1,000 studies conducted in the past six years,” she noted.
The event’s highlight was Prof. Al-Niaimi’s presentation on the emotional and physical impacts of acne and pigmentation. He emphasized Eucerin’s patient-centered approach and the brand’s unique scientific edge.
“Beiersdorf remains the only skincare company capable of testing human Tyrosinase, the key enzyme in melanin production. Inhibiting this enzyme treats hyperpigmentation at the root, unlike traditional methods that only target the skin’s surface,” he explained.
“This treatment offers a safer alternative to hydroquinone, preserving natural pigmentation without harming melanocytes. It is safe for long-term use—even during pregnancy—does not enter the bloodstream, and targets only problem areas, making it ideal for Skin of Colour,” he added.
The company officially unveiled four facial products at the launch:
Even Pigment Perfector Dual Serum
Even Pigment Perfector Day & Night Cream (for hyperpigmentation)
Dermopurifyer Triple Effect Serum (for acne)
Sun protection range, including Oil Control Sun Gel Cream, Pigment Control Sun Fluid, and Photo-Aging Sun Fluid – tailored for oily, pigmented, and aging skin.
Though the products have been available in Nigeria for a year, the launch allowed guests to share firsthand experiences and testimonials, affirming Eucerin’s efficacy.
A panel discussion led by Prof. Al-Niaimi featured Prof. Ayesha Akinkugbe, Dr. Cynthia Ebie, and Dr. Omatighene Enovo Obaro. The panelists explored product usage, dosage, effectiveness, and cost-efficiency for patients. They also praised Thiamidol as the most effective human Tyrosinase inhibitor among more than 50,000 compounds tested.
Dignitaries and stakeholders in attendance included Prof. Dasetima Altraide, President of the Nigerian Association of Dermatologists (NAD), along with the association’s Vice President, Secretary, and immediate past Secretary, Perpetua Ibekwe. Also present were Prof. Adebola Ogunbiyi, Prof. Olusola Ayanlowo, Dr. Olakunle Odusote, and Pharm. Josephine Eyinma, CEO/Founder of NETT Pharmacy.
The event attracted a wide range of professionals—dermatologists, aestheticians, pharmacists, e-commerce players, and skincare enthusiasts—underscoring the growing demand for scientifically-proven skincare solutions.
With its entry into the Nigerian market, Eucerin marks a new era of research-driven skincare tailored specifically to the needs of African skin.
